Adhesive joints and interfaces play a central role in the mechanical performance, structural integrity, and durability of heterogeneous materials and engineering structures. Understanding damage initiation, progressive degradation, and fracture at bonded interfaces is essential for predicting failure and designing reliable connections. These phenomena involve mechanisms spanning multiple length scales and are strongly influenced by material heterogeneity, interphase properties, loading conditions, and environmental effects.
This mini-symposium aims to bring together researchers working on theoretical, computational, and experimental approaches to damage and fracture in adhesive joints, thin interphases, and imperfect interfaces. Particular attention will be devoted to the relationships between microstructural mechanisms and macroscopic failure, and to the interplay between distributed damage, crack initiation, and interfacial debonding.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
The mini-symposium seeks to connect advances in interface mechanics with practical strategies for improving the damage tolerance, service life, and sustainability of bonded structures.
Important dates: Abstract submission will close on November 30, 2026 and will be accepted on the conference website.
