Dear All,
we are pleased to announce the course titled “Complex Wave Phenomena in Metamaterials and Topological Mechanics”, which will be held by Prof. Chaplain Gregory James from the University of Exeter and Prof. Jacopo Maria De Ponti from Politecnico di Milano, given in the framework of the activities of the PhD Programme in Structural, Seismic and Geotechnical Engineering (list of courses 2024/2025).
This course will take place from March 17 to 21, 2025, in Room Fassò (Building 4A).
Attached you will find the detailed programme, including the schedule and all necessary information for participation.
Best regards,
PhD Office and Communication Office – Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
COURSE CONTENTS ( 5 CFU )
The course will explore advanced topics in wave propagation phenomena within metamaterials and complex structures, spanning electromagnetism, acoustics, and elasticity. It will cover the analytical derivation of Green’s functions, wave theory in periodic media, topological insulators, numerical methods and metamaterial applications.
Special emphasis will be placed on wave propagation in elastic solids, drawing analogies with other physical contexts.
